The New Orleans Times-Picayune survived Hurricane Katrina, but its owner, Newshouse Newspapers, appears to be ending its run as the sole daily newspaper in New Orleans.

The Newhouse family's Advance Publications said it is scaling back print publication of the New Orleans Times-Picayune to three days a week from the current seven. It also will do the same with three daily newspapers it owns in Alabama.
